1968 May: The News-Letter announces the formation of the Black Student Union (BSU), "an informal coalition of Negro students" who want more black freshmen admitted, more representation in the admissions office, more black professors and courses on Black literature and history. Spokesmen Bruce Baker and John Guess say the association will "attempt to deal on the student level with the problems of race relations at Hopkins and within the Baltimore community."
