This project is a broadly collaborative effort that brings together several University departments and groups, including the Black Student Union, the Department of History, Sheridan Libraries, the Black Faculty and Staff Association, the Society of Black Alumni, the Frederick Scott Brigade, the Diversity Leadership Council, and the Africana Studies Center. Funding has been provided by the Deans of the University Libraries, Krieger School of Arts and Sciences, the College of Engineering, and the Diversity of Committee of the Milton S. Eisenhower Library.
The initiative is presently directed by Dr. Franklin W. Knight, Leonard and Helen R. Stulman Professor of History, and is made possible by the earnest commitment of a core group of dedicated staff and faculty who make up the Planning Committee. Please see the background article published in the Johns Hopkins Magazine, June, 2005. Also, please see the complete list of members, funders, faculty advisors and students.
